Of course, you can offset that by building certain structures, vassalizing Free Cities, or trading with major factions. The skill only costs 10 mana per unit but adds up quickly when you’re using it on multiple armies. It's important to note that Forced March also eats up some mana every time you use it. ![]() Forced March is useful not just for covering large distances in a small amount of time, but also for pursuing fleeing armies or escaping armies that are pursuing you. Those drawbacks are certainly nothing to scoff at, but this is one of those scenarios where the pros outweigh the cons. Since those armies have to have a certain size to be effective, this is more costly in terms of manpower and gold, but it is easier to gain advantage over the AI here - so you can beat them by sheer numbers.Forced March allows units to move twice as far as usual, however, it also drains 30 of their hitpoints and makes them exhausted for two turns in the process. You can never beat the CPU with multitasking - here only slow speed and frequent stops help to an extend-, but you can at least be prepared to have extra armies in the back to deal with AI tendency to open second fronts. But the most important reason is the AI - despite all the shortcomings, if it understand something really good, then it's playing the computers advantage of a RTS of being able to control many stacks at the same time and -if they are presented with a too strong human army in one place - to strike at your weak back. You incur a higher food consumption (or even attrition cause by it), you loose flexibility (while smaller armies can still easily fight together, if needed), you have less jobs to make your families happy. When two rival players forces engage, either in open battle or during a siege of a city, combat takes place in a separate phase of gameplay within a hexagon. ![]() It depends on the situation if few bigger or many smaller armies are better, but just one army is rarely a sucessful concept. ![]()
